Series are enjoyable. There’s nothing like ‘visiting’ old friends by reading a new installment. Other times, it’s a big time investment to get started on a new series.
Whatever the reason, here are some Young Adult stand alone recommendations that I enjoyed.
If you like retellings,
Heartless by Marissa Meyer
If you like murder mysteries in your fantasy books,
Four Dead Queens by Astrid Scholte
If you like zombie books,
The Bone Houses by Emily Lloyd-Jones
If you want a mystery that you think you’ve solved but throws a last minute twist your way,
The Lying Woods by Ashley Elston
If you like Jane Eyre but also science fiction.
Brightly Burning by Alexa Donne
If you enjoy a good puzzle,
To Best The Boys by Mary Weber
If you love the humor of The Princess Bride,
My Plain Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, & Jodi Meadows

Great picks! I also heartily recommend Frances Hardinge. She typically writes standalones, which I appreciate.

Ooh thank you! I’ve seen her books around the library. Guess I need to take a closer look at them.

I’ve been looking at Brightly Burning for awhile and you have convinced me!! Though, truth be told, The Stars We Steal (also by Alex Donne) was completely nuts. lmao. I finished it in a night, though!! Good list.

I hope you have fun with it! I’ve been looking at The Stars We Steal but haven’t had a chance to read it yet. Nuts can be fun though, right> 🤣

So, I kind of (re: ABSOLUTELY) want to read Ashley Elston’s ‘The Lying Woods’ now to see whether or not I CAN figure it out.

Oh that would be a fun experiment! I went into it with no knowledge of anything about the book so it’s not a surprise that I missed it.
