Book Review: ‘Songs From The Deep’

Songs From The Deep is a quiet book that would have fallen under my radar if not for Unplugged Book Box (see the unboxing). It’s slow paced but fully paints you a picture of this small island town. You can almost taste the salt on your skin and feel the chill in the air from the way Powell places you in the town. I guess the story could be labeled as historical fiction/historical fantasy since it takes place in an undetermined past time period. It gives it a nice timeless feel though.

I’m always a sucker for historical mysteries so I loved Moira & Jude playing detective. They weren’t smarter than the detectives, they were just willing to ask questions no one else was asking.

The relationship between Moira and Jude was great. You felt the hesitancy between the two of them. The love you have for a friend really never goes away even if you grow apart. The relationship wasn’t rushed. It was just a natural progression of the friendship they had years ago that’s been allowed to bloom again.

If you’re looking for a quiet historical mystery, I recommend Songs From The Deep.
