Book Box Guesses: March 2020

It’s no secret that I’m a book box lover. Part of the fun is trying to guess the upcoming month’s books (even if I don’t subscribe). Here’s a round up of what I think will be in the upcoming month’s boxes. I’ll update this post as new themes are revealed.

If you’d like to play along, drop your guesses in the comments and I’ll add them to the post! If you think I’m wrong. please leave a comment as to which book is a better fit.

I STRONGLY urge you to research a box before buying or subscribing. There’s been some shady behavior lately and you don’t want to get caught up in it.

This theme is based on some of our favourite High Fantasy stories! . .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The themed artwork was created by official artist Jenny (@tecsiederp) with some help from her friend Lotus (@yafreffel) and is exclusive to Book Hooked Box. We wanted this piece to feel rather fantastical and magical. We think both artists achieved this! The artwork will be included in the box as usual. 😊 . . I typically don’t talk about how or why I choose a book for a box. This month, though? I have so much to say. I normally pick fantasy books about 98% of the time for the boxes bc it’s what’s trending. I’ll admit March was a tough month. There is a highly anticipated fantasy book I know you all would clamor over. It is very enjoyable and very on brand for the kinds of book we choose. But I went with another selection this month that’s not fantasy and so different from what I usually include. There’s a reason for this. Stories entertain, yes. But stories are also important bc they can showcase and highlight events in the world around us. And this one moved me to the point where I’m still thinking about it 2 months later. The book I chose this month is a story of domestic violence. It’s a story of having to make sacrifices. It’s story of love. It’s a story of overcoming fear, of living and healing. It’s the story of every 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men in the US. It’s a story that may belong to you, your friend, family member or neighbor. It’s a book that tackles a heavy subject matter but is filled with charm, humor, light and hope. I took a risk this month choosing this book because I know that 95% of you already are familiar with the fantasy title to which I’ve referred and are probably hoping I’d pick it. But it’s already on the radar for the book community. Instead, I wanted to showcase a book that isn’t getting enough buzz. I wanted to put this incredibly powerful book in the hands of readers who might not have picked it up otherwise. This is a story that needs to be told, to be read and to be shared. I think sometimes we get so caught up in hyped “it” books that we forget the joy of discovering new something that wows us.
