Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
You can see a list of upcoming themes here.
Today’s topic is settings I’d like to visit more in books.
- Boarding Schools
- Giant Mysterious Houses
- I always felt “deprived” as a child that no one in my family had giant houses for me to explore.
- Special Camps or Schools
- You know, along the lines of Harry Potter or Percy Jackson.
- New Mexico
- I really enjoyed Watch You Burn by Amanda Searcy. Now I want all the books set in my home state.
- Space Ships
- Slightly Murder-y AI system is optional.
- Familiar Settings From Literature
- I love getting to see another side of stories I’m familiar with.

I would probably actually be terrified of a giant mysterious house, but I also felt very deprived by not having a great-aunt who left us a huge, mysterious house lol.

A novel that took place somewhere like the Winchester Mystery House would be a lot of fun!

Giant empty houses were on my list too! And I should have listed boarding schools – when I was a kid, I fantasized about going to a boarding school, so I always love reading about them.

I love familiar settings, too. If a book is set in my state or a town I am familiar with I read it with a kind of scrutiny. https://headfullofbooks.blogspot.com/2019/07/ttt-book-settings.html

Watch You Burn was a fun twist. It’s set in a fictional city so it feels like home but not exactly.

Right? I wish someone would leave me a big, haunted house in their will. It sounds like fun (at least in fiction)!
Happy TTT!
