Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
You can see a list of upcoming themes here.

I’m a huge fan of audiobooks. They make my commute (and errands) so much more enjoyable! It’s also an easy way to up the number of books you read each year. If you’re looking for a place to start with audiobooks, I’ve got a few favorites for you below.

The Illuminae Files by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
If you’re going to listen to only one audiobook, it HAS to be this. The book is a doorstop and has really interesting formatting which may not be for everyone. The full cast audiobook is accessible for everyone.

As You Wish by Cary Elwes
The Princess Bride is my favorite movie. I love everything about it. I don’t read much non-fiction but picked this up on whim. I’m so glad I did. Everything about the book was wonderful. The cast reading entries in the book, the behind the scenes stories, Cary Elwes’ voice. I didn’t think I could love the movie anymore but this book pushed me in that direction.

The Seven Realms series by Cinda Williams Chima
I like fantasy but I struggle with high fantasy. I muddled my way through book one because it was a bit slow moving. I tried book two on audio and was immediately captivated. What bothered me when I read the book became what I was drawn to while listening. This because one of my favorite series because the audiobooks were so wonderful.

The Monstrumologist series by Rick Yancey
Horror isn’t my usual type of book but there was something horrifyingly addictive about this series. The ick factor was up there so I’m not sure how I would have fared with reading it. I couldn’t stop listening though.
If you’re still on the fence about audiobooks, try listening to something you’ve read before. I’ve found it to be a great way to squeeze in rereads into my schedule.
Another option to try books you’ve want to read but they’re not super high on your TBR pile (I worked through the Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder and The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis this way).
I’ve got a whole list of my favorites on my blog. I’m just getting into audiobooks, so I thank you for these suggestions.

I’m so fascinated by your comments about listening to horror audiobooks. Does it make their gory scenes more vivid, I wonder? I’d bet it’s interesting either way.

It makes it hard to listen! If I’m watching something gory/scary, I’ll cover my eyes. With the audiobooks, I’m forced to listen to the gore!

Illuminae is my go to recommendation for audiobooks these days. Also, Mistborn via audio is pretty damn good. The narrator, Michael Kramer, is phenomenal!

Oooh, I gotta see if the library has Mistborn audiobooks!

I so love fantasy on audio too! I find I keep up better with the world building, because when I read I tend to accidentally skim boring world building parts, which later comes back to bite me when I don’t remember details.😂 So YAS for audios!!
